When I look at fashion magazines and models I want to see fantasy not reality. If I want reality I can just walk down the street. So when V magazine decided to feature "curvy," plus-sized models for their current issue I just thought one thing: publicity stunt!!! And it worked, everyone is talking about the issue. The people at V are calling it the "size issue," but I think it should have been called the "weight issue" because the focus seems to be on fat models.I'm gonna be honest and it's gonna sound cruel and brutal, but I don't want to see that when I open up a glossy. I don't want to see my own muffin top, much less those on models in a magazine. I know I'm suppose to be all gushy about how fabulous it is to feature fat models, but in the end I think it sends the exact same message as featuring super skinny models in a magazine. These models may seem "normal," but when "normal" is fat, something is wrong, just like it's wrong when being extremely skinny is the norm.
Somewhere in the debate between fat and skinny in the fashion world the word HEALTHY got lost. Healthy should be the norm, not being too fat or skinny. When I open up a fashion magazine I want to see something fabulous like Gisele, she looks healthy and vibrant. Wouldn't the world be a wonderful place filled with a bunch of Giseles.
